The latest Employee Outlook survey from the CIPD has found that too many managers have an inflated opinion of their ability to manage people. The survey shows that 72% of employers report a lack of leadership and management skills. This ‘reality gap’ in the capability of the UK’s managers, is undermining attempts to boost economic growth. In response, we’re urging the Government and employers to recognise that just a small increase in capability amongst people managers would make a significant contribution to productivity and this starts by getting them to take a good look at themselves. Using developmental assessment centres as a launch for action learning based leadership programmes can include behavioural and emotional intelligence analysis as well as reviewing the potential of these managers. Reviewing and evaluating their performance on ‘real world projects’ brings new insights and learning directly into their daily work and 1:1 coaching supports challenging personal transitions. Developing your senior executives and managers in this way optimises the time spent away from work and brings an immediate impact to your organisation.

The CIPD/Cornerstone OnDemand Learning and Talent Development Survey 2012, found traditional methods of workplace learning are considered amongst the least effective ways to up-skill employees – but still dominate the majority. The reluctance to embrace new technology is high, despite a massive opportunity to make reduced budgets go so much further, and not lose quality of content, it appears we prefer face to face interventions. This is where high quality, bespoke and professional coaching and mentoring can meet individual needs while minimising time away from work. For more information on our Coaching and mentoring programmes or if you are seeking professional and confidential coaching sessions please contact TPS today to discuss your options.

We received a letter from one of the lovely children we sponsor in Romania through People against Poverty. The weather was so severe throughout the winter in Romania that the project had difficulty getting out there, so the letter is a little late but it is such a lovely letter we thought we would share it with you:

My Dear Friend,
Heartfelt thanks for the trip you offered me. I visited many lovely places: I was at ‘Lacul Rosu’ (‘The Red Lake’ – a lake in the Carpathians between Piatra Neamt and Harghita county) I got there via ‘Cheile Bicazului’ (a mountain gorge above Lake Bicaz, through which the road passes under an impressive series of rock overhangs) which i enjoyed very much. I’d like to invite you to visit us and to you “Happy Christmas” as the festivals approach, thousands of thanks for everything and much health for you and your family.
Much respect from your friend.

It just illustrates how sponsorship really does make a difference. If you would like to sponsor a child through People against Poverty find out more here

Sally has just finished reading Karen Moxom’s book “The NLP Professional”, we hope you enjoy her review…….

This book is a delight to consume in depth when first starting your NLP business and for seasoned NLPers to use as a reference guide and keep on the bookshelf. As well as being an easy and entertaining read, it is full of tips and references, all of which will guide your business planning and development process. It provides a framework for ‘being’ a professional and highlights the pitfalls that many NLPers have fallen into, while gently challenging those who have not yet been as congruent and ethical as the profession deserves.
Karen modestly shares her own journey into the NLP world. Her unique experience of ‘having lived the profession from a meta position’ enables her to provide expert guidance on how to ‘get it right’ from the beginning in a style which is full of common sense, integrity and fun!

The beginning of the year saw many delegates on our MA programme graduate either with Postgraduate certificates, Postgraduate Diplomas and of course Masters in Coaching and NLP.
TPS are thrilled to have so many Graduates finishing the programme and producing some exceptional pieces of work. We wish them all the very best for the future and i am sure we will keep in touch.
Some Graduates sent us photo’s and a few words about graduating……

“I am so glad that I took opportunity to wear the board and gown and to take part in the Graduation ceremony. I admit to being a little hesitant at first; usually, I’m a bit shy about ceremonies. Katie insisted and I’m so pleased she did because it was the perfect way to complete my MA journey. Every step of that journey – especially the challenging times – felt worth it when I graduated. A fantastic day!”

- Bob King

“The graduation was a journey of learning and exploration as well as reflection. It was an honour to graduate and it was great to meet so many amazing people on this learning journey .It has changed my life and opened many new doors “

- Ugesh Rattay

As you are probably aware UK University fees are set to increase from Autumn 2012.
So with that in mind our friends at Derby University have therefore suggested we bring forward the September enrolment for the MA in Applied Coaching to the end of July so that we can maintain this year’s rates for our next cohort.
What a great idea and we will work the timetable to avoid hand-in dates over the summer.
So……. if you are wanting to enrollgive Ailsa a call to discuss your plans.

In line with ICF’s new worldwide membership eligibility requirements (MER)*, there will be three ICF membership categories beginning April 1, 2012: ICF Provisional Member, ICF Coach Member, and ICF Credentialed Member.

ICF Provisional Member: If you have less than 60 hours of coach specific training (or your training hours do not meet the requirements*), you will assume the ICF Provisional Member status on April 1, 2012 for a maximum of one year (until April 1, 2013) or until MER is fulfilled (if completed before April 1, 2013). Coach specific training hours accumulated so far as well as those collected between now and the official policy launch on April 1, 2013 will be applicable.
ICF Coach Member: If you have at least 60 hours of coach specific training (and it meets the requirements*) and do not hold an ICF Credential, you will be considered to have fulfilled MER and will retain ICF Coach Member status on April 1, 2012.
ICF Credentialed Member: If you hold a valid ICF Credential (ACC, PCC, or MCC), you will automatically fulfill MER. You will retain ICF Credentialed Member status on April 1, 2012.

There is no need to submit documentation or verification of completion of your coach specific training—as a member of the ICF, you are bound by the ICF Code of Ethics (prohibits misrepresentation of coaching qualifications). ICF will retain the right to verify a member’s coach training hours or proof of accreditation from a coach training program or school at any time.

Also beginning April 1, 2012, all new ICF members will fall into the following membership categories:

  • Individuals who join as a new member and hold a current ICF Credential (ACC, PCC, MCC) will be considered to have fulfilled the membership eligibility requirements and will become a Credentialed Member.
  • Individuals who join as a new member and have completed at least 60 hours of coach-specific training* will be considered to have fulfilled the minimum membership eligibility requirements and will become an ICF Coach Member.
  • Individuals who join as a new member and have fewer than 60 hours of coach-specific training and are currently enrolled in at least a minimum of a 60 hour ICF-approved Accredited Coach Training Program (ACTP) or Approved Coach Specific Training Hours (ACSTH) training program of at least 60 hours duration are eligible to join as ICF Coach Members. The enrollment will be verified by ICF.
  • *MER states that, in order to continue as an ICF member, you must complete 60 hours of coach specific training by April 1, 2013. The ICF is not requiring you to pursue or have an ICF Credential to remain an ICF member.

Definition of Training that is accepted as coach specific training:
(These are aligned with the requirements for the ACC Portfolio Application credential path.)

  • Training from an Accredited Coach Training Program (ACTP) or a program that has received the ICF Approved Coach Specific Training Hours (ACSTH) designation.
  • Training from a Continuing Coach Education (CCE) Provider, subject to these limitations:
    – All hours approved in Core Competencies will be accepted.
    – A maximum of 12 hours outside of the Core Competencies will be accepted.
  • Training that is specifically marketed as teaching coaching skills, that teaches coaching skills or teaches how to apply technical skills in a coach-like manner and teaches coaching skills in accordance with the ICF Core Competencies.
